Builders in North Carolina have the unique opportuntity to take advantage of two opportunities for financial incentives through sustainable building practices. The 45L program provides incentives for building homes that meet Energy Star standards, while Duke Power offers additional incentives for meeting similar building standards.
AeroBarrier can be a key tool when reaching the needed air tightness standards for both programs. We connect our patented technology to your home via a modified blower to pressurize and distribute the sealing formula. The pressure carries our non-toxic, water-based formula throughout the home and effectively seals any leak by using the very air that is leaking out of the home, thereby finding any leak point; visible or not.
The Duke Energy HERO program is an initiative that provides incentives to builders for constructing energy-efficient homes in North Carolina. The program operates under Duke Energy Carolinas (DEC) and Duke Energy Progress (DEP), both of which offer different rebate amounts and criteria.
Here are the incentives provided by both:
1. Duke Energy Progress (DEP):
2. Duke Energy Carolinas (DEC):
To participate, builders should apply at the official Duke Energy website: duke-energyrncinfo.com
In addition to the HERO program, there's the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which will provide nearly $200 million in new funding to North Carolina for rebates to help make energy efficiency upgrades to single and multifamily homes. These rebates are split into two programs; the HOMES program and the High-Efficiency Electric Home rebate program (HEEH). The HOMES program will allocate over $98 million to North Carolina to address whole-house energy efficiency upgrades.
In January of 2019 North Carolina put into effect the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code throughout the state. Included in this code is the requirement for all new construction homes to meet a 5 ACH50 blower door test.
Consistently achieving a blower door test result of 5 ACH50 (air changes per hour at 50 Pascals) can be challenging, especially when working in an environment with very high volume. It requires careful attention to building design, construction techniques, and the implementation of proper air sealing measures. Builders need to pay close attention to details and ensure a comprehensive air barrier throughout the building envelope to minimize air leakage.
This is why AeroBarrier is such an attractive solution for builders in the state of New Jersey. If you would like to explore this option for your projects, contact us to discuss our demo and pilot project opportunities.
